piaget cognitive developement:language development

children develop their language by using schemas. assimilation and accomadation helps aswell.

Pre-linguistic phase (pre-language)
This is the first process of language development.
This phase usually lasts 12 months and ends when babies first words begin to emerge.
In this stage, they learn the skills of communication including eye contact, smiling and turn taking.
They learn the meaning of words aswell as practicing them. This often takes the form of BABBLING
0-8 weeks-basic biological noises
8-20 weeks-cooing noises
25-50 weeks-babbling noises

Holophase
About 9-18 months
When you
use a word to stand for several things
E.g dink-drink


Dada being the easiest to say because less lip muscles are
Needed to say it.


Telegraphic
18 months+=1 YEAR and 6 MONTHS
The 2/3 words stage of abbreviated speech
E.g dink gone
Short comminication, incompleted sentences


Fully developed speech
From 24 months+=2 YEARS
Where sentences become more complex and complete
